A Country in Flames

Documentary, development stage
In the forest of the Landes, the Pyro’zié company shares its tenderness, its poetry and its anger through fireworks. Amongst highly explosive fuel drums and the ablaze treetops, this pyrotechnic company turns fire into a language, connecting us through rhythm, light and heat. From the experience of our most primitive emotions to our most refined imaginary constructions, their fires evoke others: the devastating forest fires of the Landes, the violence and rage of the “insurrectionist fires” that have been raging across the French territory since 2018, and the intricate entanglements knitted by the different human beings, animals and plants in this ecosystem.

Mona Convert was born in France. She has a degree in Fine Arts (ESAPB, Biarritz), a bachelor in arts and video (ERG, Bruxelles), and a master in Audiovisual Media (Belas-Artes de Lisboa). Her work lays on the borderline between creative documentary and visual arts. She is now doing her PhD in Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, and she’s collaborating with French associations on encouraging artistic creation in the rural milieu (Artistes & Associés).
