In the 1970s, a house in Paris hosted dozens of Portuguese deserters draft dodging from the colonial war. Only the archives of the Portuguese political police kept the traces evidence of their anti-colonialist activities. From one character to another, gathering testimonials and amateur images, I reconstruct this clandestine memory.
Hugo Dos Santos has a degree in history and cinema. After a spell on documentary film, in which he worked in the archives of films on immigration, exile, colonialism and social struggles, he turned to journalism. Since 2008, he is committed to the association Mémoire vive / Memória Viva which collects and reworks the memory of Portuguese immigration in France. In 2019 he is appointed as curator for the exhibition Refuser la guerre coloniale, which portrays the Parisian exile of the colonial war defectors.
