Mário Espada was born in Lisbon in 1995. He graduated from the Cinema and Video course at the António Arroio Art School and has a bachelor degree in Editing from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. He studied piano at the Gregorian Institute of Lisbon and was a jazz pianist in the school-orchestra Big Band Júnior. He interned at Optec Filmes where he worked in film post-production. Parallel to his studies, he worked on video projects in collaboration with CCB and Hot Club de Portugal. He edited various short-films shown at international film festivals (FICUNAM, San Sebastián Film Festival, Premiers Plans Film Festival, DocLisboa, Indielisboa, among others) and recently collaborated in the editing of the installation “Ciguatera” by Diana Policarpo, present at the Venice Biennale, and in the editing of the film “Paraíso” by Sérgio Tréfaut (Award for Best Musical Documentary at FIPADOC). Since 2018, he works at Kintop as a resident editor, having worked on the feature films “Rising Sun Blues” by Renata Ferraz (Ann Arbor Film Festival), “Occupied Territories” by José Vieira and “Journey to the Sun” by Ansgar Schaefer and Susana de Sousa Dias (IDFA – International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam).
