People hiding behind masks are those creatures one finds in various pagan traditions throughout Europe. They are usually men dressed in animal-like costumes in various pagan rituals, intended to either assure protection against evil spirits or to enhance fertility. These rituals are still carried out nowadays in various parts of Europe, especially in the rural milieu.

Started working in photography as a teenager and in cinema as an assistant director at INA – Institut National de l’audiovisuel. He worked for over 20 years at the cinematography department, at first as first camera assistant in feature films, and later as director of photography in numerous fictions for cinema and television. As director of photography, he partook in several documentary films for French television.
Based in the south-west of France in the past ten years, Philippe Roussilhe has since then devoted himself to writing and directing documentaries.
