One hundred years after Portugal joining World War One, the narrator starts a quest to know more about his great-grandfather Francisco Nobre, who fought in the trenches in France. A group photography, where no one seems able to identify his great-grandfather, serves as a starting point to find out who was this man no one seems to remember.

Jorge Vaz Gomes studied Directing at ETIC in Lisbon, Photography at ar.co school of arts, and has a Master in Multimedia Arts from the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon.. He worked in television for a few years, where he worked as a director, writing short fiction bits for an experimental cable tv channel. As an actor he has also participated in numerous fiction series for national television, and also in several long features of directors such as Rita Nunes, Vicente Alves do Ó and André Marques. He directed the short films “Sobre a mesa”, 2010; “O Quarteirão”, 2015; “Jean-Claude”, 2016, (special mention prize by the IndieLisboa jury, official competition at War on Screen Festival); and mapa-esquisito” 2018, (IndieLisboa Short Film Competition 2018, Best Portuguese film prize at the Cinenova festival). He is now doing his pHD at the University Lisbon, and Paris-3 University, and was also a participant of the IDFA Academy 2021. In 2022 he will premier his first feature film, about his great-grandfather who was a soldier in World War One, “Soldier Nobre”.
